Metal technicians in machining technology produce metal and plastic components by using cutting and machining processes. These include, for example, drilling, turning, milling, filing, grinding and sawing.

Machining technicians process the workpieces on conventional (mechanical or electrical) machines or using computer-controlled (CNC) systems.

They plan the work steps, select the materials and check the quality of the finished workpieces. Metal technicians in machining technology work in industrial and commercial companies together with colleagues and other skilled and unskilled workers.

Application

  • You should know that:

    By when do I have to apply for an apprenticeship?

    Applications can be submitted on an ongoing basis. Applications submitted by April can be considered for the apprenticeship position in September.

  • When will I find out if I have been accepted?

    The aim is to fix the apprenticeships by the end of May.

  • Do I have to complete trial days to get an apprenticeship?

    YES, during the taster days you can get to know us and we can get to know you and find out whether we are the right company for you.

  • How can I apply for an apprenticeship at SBOT?

    Sign up for a taster and send us your application documents. This includes your CV, certificates from the last two years and a letter of motivation. Use the online application form.

Admission test

The entrance test has been specially developed for our needs. It is tailored to young people aged 14 and over and is assessed in an age-appropriate manner. In addition to the test, your practical skills will also be assessed during the taster day and used to make a decision.

You will be tested on the following topics under time pressure:

    Wenn du an unseren Maschinen arbeiten willst, musst du auch längere Zeit konzentriert sein können. Wir stellen fest, ob dir das gelingt.

    Das ist eine der wichtigsten Fähigkeiten die du mitbringen solltest. Denn bevor ein Werkstück erstellt wird, musst du dir vorstellen können wie es einmal aussehen wird.

  • Sprach-Verständnis

    Um Anweisungen richtig befolgen zu können, ist es wichtig, dass du sie auch richtig verstehst. Wir stellen fest wie gut dir das gelingt.

In order to be able to secure the need for highly qualified specialists on our machines in the future, we take on six to eight apprentices for the profession of “machining technician” every year.

For our “Maintenance” department, we are recruiting apprentices for “Electrical engineering / plant and operating technology” and “Metal technology / mechanical engineering” as required. In this profession, your future area of responsibility will be mechanical and electrical troubleshooting on the machines.

You will be rewarded with bonuses for special achievements (“good success” and “excellent success” at vocational school and in the final apprenticeship examination).

The first three places in the nationwide apprenticeship competition are also awarded prizes.

Education

In addition to technical training, social skills training is also very important when starting a career. It has long since ceased to be enough to simply teach future skilled workers the skills and knowledge that are legally required by the job description.

For this reason, SBOT invests heavily in soft skills training. Our experience and the high success rate in completing the training confirm that we are on the right track with our training system.

Focus

The focus of our training is CNC technology. CNC machines (Computerized Numerical Control) are machine tools that use modern control technology to automatically produce workpieces with high precision, even for complex shapes.

From the third year of your apprenticeship, you will be assigned to each of our production areas for a certain period of time (rotation plan). This will deepen your practical experience on the machines.

At SBOT, you have the advantage of completing your training in our own training workshop.

The most modern machines and work equipment are available to you on 385m². You will be optimally prepared for your work in our production on and with these.
The theory lessons take place in our training room. We have set up four programming stations there, which can be used to simulate the full functionality of a CNC machine.

The fact that we have made two of the best employees our apprentice trainers has paid off!

They have many years of experience in the field of machining. Before they joined our training workshop as trainers, they worked at SBOT on the high-tech machining centers. They also have the gift of passing on their knowledge to you young people in an interesting way.

They are currently training 28 apprentices – 1 mechanical engineering technician and 27 machining technicians. They are also training two girls in their first year of apprenticeship and are currently preparing another young woman for her apprenticeship certificate. The many years of experience of our trainers and their continuous further training are of great importance to ensure that they are always familiar with the latest technologies.

Their performance is reflected every year in the successful completion of vocational schools, final apprenticeship examinations and apprentice competitions.
